NJ Says, Let that Man Go
Did you know that NJ’s new single “MANGO” created word play? Lin Manuel Miranda didn’t even know how to do it correctly before this subliminal song was released on January 8th, 2021. In her newest single NJ gives everyone a friendly reminder to “Let that man go,” ergo: “MANGO”. It’s something that is so simple yet genuinely clever and you can’t leave after hearing it just once.
Nicole Jacobs, otherwise known as NJ, is a new up and coming indie pop artist from Atlanta, Georgia who is making her way up the music industry ladder through her catchy and hypnotizing songs. Audible in "MANGO”, her main goal is to empower women with her lyrics and refined sound. She is truly an icon and there's proof of that in the way she portrays herself online and within her music.
“MANGO” is an amazing song and there’s no doubt about it, but NJ’s voice is probably even more astounding. She is, “too focused on [her] energy” in the song, and the energy that she gives off is definitely fresh and badass. The vocals on this track are so ethereal and elastic, submerging you into the heavy R&B and indie pop feelings that she brings onto the song. The pitch perfect background vocals throughout this song also add a lot to the sound, allowing the song to feel really vast and full.
As previously mentioned, “MANGO” is an intelligent play on the idea of letting a man go when he isn’t good for you anymore. NJ is telling you to stay away from the boy with all the red flags, no matter how unbearable quarantine gets. Take some time to focus on yourself in 2021, listen to “MANGO”, and stop running back to that boy who stepped all over you. This is honestly the perfect song for getting ready in the morning and a great one to use as a part of your daily affirmations because those are really important too.
